Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals require a Rental Agreement, which will be provided upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your obligations for the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type, with possible extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence, appropriate for the vehicle category and held for the minimum duration outlined in the Rental Agreement, is required. Additionally, present valid identification and proof of your current address. You will need to provide valid payment information along with a security deposit. Be prepared to meet any further requirements detailed in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Details
- Reservations can be completed via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Rayleigh office. To confirm your booking, a deposit may be necessary. The remaining balance and a security deposit are usually payable upon collecting your vehicle. All rates are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure transactions through trusted payment gateways.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, a thorough inspection is required to identify and report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed to document the state of the vehicle. Upon return, ensure the vehicle is in the same condition as when it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and appropriate charges will be applied. It is necessary to return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at pickup; refueling fees will be incurred if it is returned with less fuel. Late returns may result in additional charges, so please communicate with us as soon as possible if a delay is anticipated. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that occur during your rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Policies
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. You can find comprehensive coverage information and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to help limit your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You will remain liable for damages or losses up to the insurance excess amount unless additional coverage is purchased. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms will be your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ depending on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. It is prohibited to transport hazardous materials or to sub-let the vehicle to unauthorized individuals. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, the vehicle should not be used in ways it is not intended for, such as exceeding passenger or weight limits, or venturing outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior authorization.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Rayleigh will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our liability for any claims is capped at the rental amount paid in the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are regulated by English and Welsh law. Disputes will be handled exclusively by the courts in England and Wales.
10. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
